Brian Coleman to Lead OCO Health and Nutrition Services

Brian Coleman has been named director of Oswego County Opportunities Director of Health and Nutrition Services. 

A native of Phoenix, Coleman, who holds a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Keuka College, joined OCO in 2012 as the agency’s Homeless Services Program Manager. Since 2014 Coleman has served as Coordinator for the Rural Health Network (RHN), a collaboration consisting of 35 human services, government, and behavioral health organizations.

As RHN coordinator, Coleman facilitated planning and development for the health and human service delivery system in Oswego County. In addition to assessing services and identifying gaps, Coleman worked closely with network partners in the areas of care coordination, and education and engagement of providers and consumers.

Under his leadership the RHN undertook a restructure with the goal of sustaining the area’s health and human service delivery system into the future. It is the mission of the RHN to facilitate the coordination of health and human services to improve the well-being of county residents.

“In Brian’s five-plus year tenure with OCO, he has excelled in several different manager and leadership positions,” said Waite. “While serving as coordinator of our Rural Health Network, Brian was diligent in keeping abreast of the many changes in the health care arena. His ability to stay on the cutting edge of service delivery, and willingness to explore new initiatives, will serve him well in his new position.” 

As director of OCO Health and Nutrition Services Coleman will be responsible for overseeing programs that touch the lives of thousands of individuals of all ages: from summer youth feeding programs, Meals on Wheels and Dining and Activity Centers to reproductive health services, health insurance enrollment and cancer screenings.

“I’ve always had a passion for serving people,” said Coleman. “I wish to make a positive difference in their lives. This position allows me to work with a talented team of individuals committed to providing services in a quality way. By working together it makes it possible to impact far more lives than I would be able to on my own. My goal is to see that folks have access to the health and nutrition services they need.

“I grew up in Oswego County and I look forward to ensuring that OCO continues to offer its array of health and nutrition services to those who live here and implementing new strategies to address any future needs that may arise.”
