Community Champion
Director of Oswego County Office for the Aging Sara Sunday (r) delivers meals to Mary Gummer of Oswego. Sunday is one of the many business leaders, elected officials, and community members who participated OCO’s March For Meals Community Champions Week. March for Meals is a nationwide initiative to help raise awareness of hunger among senior citizens and the importance of home delivered meal programs.
“Being a part of Community Champions Week is a great opportunity to work with OCO and meet the people we are serving,” Sunday stated. “It’s important to have that one to one contact and be able to let them know that we are here for them and inform them about other services they may benefit from. The primary mission of the Oswego County Office for the Aging is to keep people in their homes as long as possible, as safely as possible. Our support of OCO’s Meals on Wheels program is one way to help them do so.”
Administered through OCO’s Nutrition Services and funded in part through Oswego County Office for the Aging, New York State Office for the Aging, and United Way of Greater Oswego County, OCO’s Meals on Wheels program delivers approximately 1,000 meals each day.
