Community Garden Ready to Grow!
Staff from OCO Nutrition Services were joined by community volunteers as well as staff from Cornell Cooperative Extension, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, and the Oswego County Health Department as they prepared the Fulton Community Garden for planting. “We greatly appreciated the turn out we had and the hard work our volunteers did. The garden looks great and is ready for planting!” said OCO Nutrition Services Coordinator Lori Halstead.
Participants receive free vegetable seeds and members of the Nutrition Collaboration and Cornell Cooperative Extension on hand to provide assistance. “As an incentive, those who confirm participation in the Community Garden will receive a $20 gift card to Lowe’s Home Improvement,” added Halstead.
Located in John Lincoln Park on Gilbert Street in Fulton the Community Garden, which is supported by the Nutrition Collaboration of Oswego County and funded by the Rural Health Network, offers community members the opportunity to grow their own vegetables. Fulton city residents interested in participating in the Community Garden Project should contact OCO Nutrition Services Coordinator Lori Halstead at 315-598-4712, or visit www.oco.org, Health and Nutrition Services, for more information.
