OCO Nutrition Services Dials up Holiday Calling

OCO Nutrition Services Dials up Holiday Calling

Staff and volunteers with OCO Nutrition Services are checking in with clients in OCO’s Meals on Wheels program throughout the holiday season. For many of the seniors that receive home delivered meals, the person delivering the meal is the only person they have contact with in their home.

“Our Holiday Calling initiative is a nice way to keep in touch with our seniors,” said OCO Nutrition Services Coordinator Bridget Dolbear. “During the holiday season, especially the weeks leading up to Christmas and between Christmas and New Year’s Day, our seniors may not see someone for several days. Holiday Calling allows us to check in with our seniors to see that they are doing well and make sure that they are not experiencing any issues that need attention. It’s always nice to hear a friendly holiday greeting. It helps brighten their day and they appreciate it.”

The Holiday Calling initiative is part of OCO’s participation in the 2017 Subaru Share the Love® Event.
A partnership with the National Meals on Wheels Association and Subaru, Share the Love provides local meals on wheels program the opportunity to receive financial support. For every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased now through January 2, 2018 Subaru will donate $250 to one of four national charities or to a preapproved hometown charity such as OCO’s Meals on Wheels program if designated by the purchase or lessee.

“Our participation in the 2017 Subaru Share the Love Event® allows us raise awareness of OCO’s Meals on Wheels program and provides us with the opportunity to raise additional funds for the program,” added Dolbear.

OCO’s Nutrition Services is funded in part through Oswego County Office for the Aging and United Way of Greater Oswego County.  OCO’s Nutrition Services administers six Dining and Activity Centers as well, where seniors can enjoy a hot, nutritious noontime meal and visit with friends.  These centers are located in Fulton, Mexico, Hannibal, Parish, Phoenix and Cleveland.
