OCO Recognizes Volunteers of the Year

OCO honored its volunteers of the year at the agency’s annual meeting held recently at Springside at Seneca Hill.

Longtime volunteer Kevin Lord received the agency’s prestigious Howard Wilcox Volunteer of the Year Award. Established in memory of a very special OCO volunteer, the Howard Wilcox Volunteer of the Year Award is presented annually to a volunteer who goes above and beyond in offering their time and talents to an OCO program.

Lord, who is also a Special Olympics athlete, has been a volunteer at OCO’s Backstreet Books for over 12 years.  While at the store Lord greets and assists customers and is responsible for everything from prepping and pricing items to tracking inventory.

“Kevin’s dedication to Backstreet Books is remarkable,” said Backstreet Books Manager / Employee Specialist Carol Ireland. “Kevin has taken OCO’s OPT bus faithfully every Wednesday for the past 12 years. His enthusiasm never sways. He truly believes in his role of being able to help others have a positive outlook on their day and always brings a smile to the face of those around him. Kevin receiving this award is a reflection of the dedication that he has given to this position. His success represents what OCO is all about and the work the agency does each and every day.”

Marguerite Warner, a volunteer with OCO Nutrition Services, was the recipient of OCO’s Distinguished Volunteer Award.

“Marguerite has been dependable volunteer with OCO’s Meals on Wheels program for over 8 years,” said OCO Nutrition Services Support Manager Christine Parks. “Marguerite is loved by everyone on her route. She always takes the time to sit down and visit with them and let them know that someone cares about them. We are proud to count Marguerite among our many valued volunteers.” In addition to her work with OCO’s Meals on Wheels program Warner also volunteers for Hospice and the Phoenix food pantry.
