OCO to “Walk the Bottom Line” to Raise Awareness of Colon Cancer

OCO to “Walk the Bottom Line” to Raise Awareness of Colon Cancer

OCO’s Cancer Services Program invites you to lace up your sneakers and “Walk the Bottom Line.” With a focus on promoting colon cancer awareness “Walk the Bottom Line” is a family event filled with activities and information on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.  The event will be held Saturday, June 3 from Noon to 3:00 p.m. at Bullhead Point in Fulton.

“It’s going to be a fun afternoon,” said OCO Cancer Services Program Manager Carolyn Handville. “There will be free Yoga and Zumba demonstrations, free prize drawings, snacks, and more.” Handville is pictured here at right with Rebecca Lloyd of Healing Arts and North Coast Yoga in preparation for the event.

The fun begins with visiting tables from local organizations and entering to win free raffles, quickly followed by a scenic 1.7 mile walk along the Lake Neatahwanta Nature Trail at 12:45 followed by a free Yoga demonstration from Rebecca Lloyd of Healing Arts Studio and North Coast Yoga at 1:15 p.m. and a free Zumba demonstration from Noelle Salmonson and Faye Beckwith from Dance 4 Fitness Studio in Hannibal beginning at 1:15 p.m.  

“I encourage community members to bring their mats and towels and experience the joy of being active and discover fun ways of adding healthy exercise to their lifestyle,” added Handville.

Throughout the afternoon there will be representatives from a number of local health related agencies and programs including; Oswego Health, Oswego County Health Department, Cornell Cooperative Extension with their smoothie bike, OCO's Navigator Program with information on health insurance, OCO’s Reproductive Health, Cancer Services, and IMPACT Programs, and more.

“Attendees will also be able to learn more about the many free cancer screenings available through OCO’s Cancer Services Program,” added Handville. “Eligible community members will be able to schedule appointments for free clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap/pelvic exams and discuss their eligibility for colon cancer screenings.”
