Physician Assistant Dinah Olson joins OCO Medical Staff

Physician Assistant Dinah Olson joins OCO Medical Staff

OCO’s Oswego Center for Reproductive Health has welcomed Dinah Olson, PA, to its staff of medical professionals.

After working for several years at a busy OBGYN practice in Syracuse, Olson, who had previously worked for OCO from 2000 to 2012, is happy to be rejoining OCO’s staff. “As I live in Oswego I was looking to practice closer to home. OCO presented the opportunity to do so. I’m looking forward to working again with a very talented staff of medical professionals,” said Olson.

In this photo, OCO Health Services LPN Cyndie Rapin (r) welcomes Dinah Olson, PA  to OCO’s Oswego Center for Reproductive Health.

Coming from a medical family, her father a surgeon and both grandparents physicians, Olson was interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and found that being a physician assistant was the perfect fit for her.

“I enjoy the relationships I am able to establish with my patients. Building a repoire with them and making them feel comfortable discussing their health issues is important to me,” said Olson.

As a physician assistant Olson works with women and men of all ages throughout their reproductive years from adolescence to post-menopausal in regards to all aspects of their reproductive health and overall wellness, from routine exams and preventative care, to visits for current health issues.

“Working for OCO again is a unique opportunity,” said Olson. “I enjoy the field of reproductive health, so when I decided to come back to Oswego, I was very happy to find OCO needed someone in this field.”

Olson returns to a staff of medical professionals that includes Dr. Daniel Coty, who serves as medical director, three Physician Assistants, an RN and three LPNs with additional clerical and administrative supports. With Health Centers in Oswego, Fulton, Mexico, Pulaski, Central Square and SUNY Oswego, OCO is one of the major reproductive healthcare providers for Oswego County.

“Our staff are the shining stars of our program,” said Inga Back, coordinator of Administrative Operations for OCO Health Services. “Dinah is a skilled, caring physician assistant with many years’ experience in reproductive health.  We are thrilled to have her on board.”

OCO’s Health Centers offer confidential sexual health services for females and males including:

-      Birth Control

-      STD Testing and Treatment

-      HIV Testing and PrEP

-      Morning After Pill

-      Pregnancy Testing

-      Infertility Counseling

-      Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings

-      Routine and Problem Visits

OCO offers the latest in birth control options including Nexplanon implants and all types of IUDs. “We have seen an increase in the demand for these types of birth control that are long acting and reversible,” explained Back. “The healthcare providers at our Centers are experts in the area of birth control. They help women every day in finding the method that works best for them.”

“I’ve always been a fan of OCO Health Services’ mission of providing quality, affordable, comprehensive health services in a sensitive and caring manner,” added Olson. “It’s important we serve those that find it difficult accessing healthcare services. I’m happy to be back with OCO,” added Olson.

Services at OCO’s Centers for Reproductive Health are provided in a confidential and non-judgmental manner. “Reproductive health issues are not always easy to talk about,” said Back. “Our medical staff treat every patient with dignity and respect and are vigilant about maintaining patients’ confidentiality.”

OCO Centers for Reproductive Health accept most major insurances and a sliding fee scale discount program is available, making services affordable for most individuals. For the uninsured, they are able to enroll eligible patients in the NYS Family Planning Benefit Program which provides 100% coverage for reproductive health and STD services. They also refer the uninsured to OCO’s Health Insurance Navigator program which helps families and individuals apply to receive the medical insurance they need.

OCO’s Oswego Center for Reproductive Health, located at 10 George Street, Suite 100, is open Monday through Thursday. OCO also has locations in Fulton, Mexico, Pulaski, Central Square and SUNY Oswego and can assist with transportation if needed. For more information on the services available at any of OCO’s Centers for Reproductive Health, or to make an appointment, contact them at 315-598-4740.
